What keeps you up at night? -- Security doesn't have to be scary.
Security does not have to be scary.
In our experience, organizations big and small tend to avoid what they are afraid of… until it’s too late. This is usually the case with security plans, technology, and assessments. This avoidance comes from a feeling that these processes point out weaknesses that will make the organization look unprepared or incapable as they are executed within the organization. In reality, this couldn’t be further from the truth!
Don’t ignore it - own it!
Facilities in many organizations do a great job when it comes to the feeding, caring, and maintenance of their equipment. No one wants to be in a situation where the chillers go out when it’s 90 degrees outside and you have a building full of paying customers. Security should be thought of in much the same light. It is far easier to get funding to maintain building systems than physical security systems in a building.
Much like the chillers, security technology should be on a preventive maintenance program to ensure that the systems are functioning and when something breaks, it is fixed in a timely fashion. No one wants to tell the police when they are taking a report that the camera has not been working for over three months. Let alone face a jury and have to state the same.
When was the last time you evaluated your security program?
The security program in any organization is fluid meaning that the threats, risks, and vulnerabilities faced by an organization last month may not be the same today. A security program does not guarantee that an organization will be crime free or that all future security concerns will be fully addressed. That is why it is so important to evaluate your security program on a periodic basis to ensure that identified threats, risks, and vulnerabilities are adequately addressed.
So, what do I do?
